P. M. Mehta Appointed L&T's Executive Director

The Board of Directors of Larsen & Toubro Limited at its meeting on June 14, 2002 appointed Mr. P. M. Mehta as a whole-time Executive Director on L&T's Board. He has been designated Sr. Vice President (Operations).

Mr. Mehta is a Mechanical Engineer from the University of Gujarat and he is working with L&T for the past 37 years. He has wide experience in the capital goods sector. He is currently heading the Heavy Engineering Division and is in-charge of Business Units manufacturing capital goods at Powai, Hazira, Baroda, Kansbahal, and Chennai. Under his leadership, L&T developed technology to manufacture critical equipment for Process, Nuclear and Defence sectors.

The focus of his Division now is to manufacture high technology equipment for Nuclear, Defence, Aerospace and for process industries in overseas market. Under Mr. Mehta's stewardship, the Heavy Engineering Division transformed itself from import substitution to Export. In the last 3 years, his Division has increased exports by about 7 times. Heavy Engineering Division is now exporting equipment to advanced countries like USA, UK, Norway, Canada, Australia and to other 40 countries. His thrust has been to reduce exposure to non-remunerative product lines and to concentrate on high technology products and exports.

Mr. Mehta is actively associated with educational institutions. He is the Director of Indian Institute of Production Management, Kansbahal and earlier a member of the Governing Council of Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad.

Mr. Mehta is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Audco (India) Limited and L&T-Demag Limited. He was earlier on the Board of L&T-Niro Limited, L&T-Chiyoda Limited and Tractor Engineers Limited.
