Towards Repair services
process improvements the L&T AUTOMATION team took a Six-Sigma
project to reduce the time taken from receipt of item to dispatch
by half.
Six-Sigma tools as per DMAIC
(Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control) methodology
e.g. SIPOC (understanding the process flow, identifying the
delays in process), Process Mapping, FMEA (Failure Mode &
Effect Analysis) used to identify the high occurring causes
and deciding actions to eliminate, Dashboard, Control Charts
were employed successfully.
Some of the gains are:

The average repair cycle time reduced by
4 times. |

Component inventory reduced by 2 times. |

Fixed costs reduced by 2.5 times due to
repositioning the service center closer to the ASC main
operations |

Boosted the efficiency of each repair engineer
as time logged for each repair processing is tracked. |

This project has been adjudged
one of the best project in over 50 projects undertaken in
whole of Electrical and Electronics Division (EBG) of L&T
by Indian Statistical Institute. The award ceremony was presided
by Dr. K B Sinha, Director - Indian Statistical Institute
and Mr. R.N. Mukhija, Member of L&T Board, apart from dignitaries
from L&T-EBG and Indian Statistical Institute - Bangalore
and Mumbai.
