Mumbai, October 5, 2006:
As part of its aggressive growth plans, engineering and construction
major, Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) is doubling capacity at its
automation facility at Mahape, Navi Mumbai. From its existing 50,000
sq. ft., the control and automation (C&A) facility will be enlarged
to 120,000 sq. ft., and is scheduled for completion by May 2007.
L&T's Chairman & Managing Director, Mr. A. M. Naik and President
of the Electrical & Electronics Division and Whole-time Director,
Mr. R. N. Mukhija, laid the foundation stone for the new facility
on Monday, October 2, 2006.
Mr. Naik said, "Our vision, strategy and action are in line with
the ongoing growth in business automation integration. Our plan
is to have the necessary base infrastructure with a long-term perspective
in mind. The new capacity at Mahape will help L&T's C&A business
unit reach the revenue target as envisaged in our strategic growth
plan."
Mr. R. N. Mukhija said, "Our automation business has shown robust
growth in recent years, with over 40% CAGR. This performance and
the growing market requirements have generated confidence that this
business will continue to grow in the next 4-5 years. We need additional
capacity to meet the growing market demands."
One of the key focus areas of C&A business will be providing electrical
and automation solutions for the burgeoning Oil & Gas, Water and
Infrastructure segments in GCC. The new sprawling state-of-the-art
facility will house fully equipped system integration and FAT (Factory
Acceptance Test) to cater to the needs of both international and
domestic customers.

Named 'Project Unnati' the new C&A facility will seek to achieve
the highest level of Green Certification and will have features
like efficient use of water and energy, eco-friendly equipment,
recycled/recyclable material, building management system and FDVS
on the shop floor. Food Court and Employee Rejuvenation Centre are
some of the highlights of the facility.
