Control & Automation business unit hosted a seminar
on Safety Integrity Level (SIL) for Reliance Industry Limited (RIL)
on December 12, 2005 in Navi Mumbai.
The seminar was inaugurated by President Group Manufacturing Services
of RIL, Mr. V. V. Surya Rau and the occasion was graced by President-Operations
& Member of the Board of L&T, Mr. R,N. Mukhija, Chief Executive
- Electronics Sector-II, Mr. Singh, Sr. Vice President-Group Manufacturing
Service of RIL, Dr. Prasad Tipnis and Sales Director-East Europe/Middle
East/India from HIMA, Mr. Jon Lee.

Mr. Surya Rau talked about the safe operation of all RIL plants
that ate handling hazardous chemicals. He asked the participant
to identify areas of improvement in safety and ensure compliance
to the new standards as IEC 61508 & IEC 61511. Mr. Mukhija welcomed
the participants and spoke about RIL's global scale operations and
the long-standing association between Reliance and L&T in nation
building.
The seminar was attended by delegated from Central Engineering services,
Instrumentation & Operation department of RIL Jamnagar, RIL Hazira,
RIL Patalganga, IPCL Nagothane, IPCL Baroda, IPCL Gandhar, RIL DAKC,
RIL Navi Mumbai. Participants heard international speakers on complex
and challenging issues faced by the industry globally in maintaining
safety performance while improving profitability.
The seminar saw deliberations on Safety systems technology with
an address on "Estimation and Evaluation of Common cause failure"
and Evaluation of protective system in petrochemical industries"
by Dr. Josef Borcsok of HIMA. Mr. Tino V. Capelle, an expert in
Safety Instrumentation System (SIS) from HIMA covered the "SIL validation"
and outlined the design methodology for safety and control systems.
